The story

The world title for long races

From 1953 to 1992 there was a World Sportscar Championship. In 2012 it came back as the WEC, with its first race at the 12 Hours of Sebring. The ACO, the club behind Le Mans, runs it; the FIA gives it world championship status.

Every race is long: six hours at most rounds, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June as the big one. Drivers take turns in each car, and several classes race on the same track at the same time.

Hypercar17 cars

The fastest prototypes, built to two rule sets: LMH cars with more design freedom, and LMDh cars on a shared chassis. Hybrid or not, a Balance of Performance keeps them close.

LMGT318 cars

GT3 race cars based on road cars. Every crew has at least one Bronze-rated amateur driver.

LMP2Le Mans only

Smaller prototypes that join just for the 24 hours, 19 of them in 2026.

Qatar and Bahrain were on the original calendar. Both were called off, and Barcelona and Monza took their places.

  • Two kinds of Hypercar

    LMH cars allow more design freedom. LMDh cars use a shared chassis. A Balance of Performance keeps both close.

  • Amateurs in every GT car

    Every LMGT3 crew includes at least one Bronze-rated amateur driver.

  • Run by the Le Mans club
