The story

A door into single-seaters

F1 Academy is a single-seater series for women only. Formula 1 announced it in November 2022, and racing began in 2023. The aim is to give young women more track time, racing and testing, so they can move up to higher categories such as F3, F2 and F1.

Every team uses the same car. The series races on Formula 1 Grand Prix weekends. Six teams share a grid of up to 18 cars.

Every car is identical: a Tatuus chassis, a 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder Autotecnica engine and Pirelli tyres. One wild card entry can join a round.

Good to know

  • Always on F1 weekends

Every round runs on a Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend, so the cars share the circuit and the crowd with F1.

  • A reverse-grid race

Each round includes a reverse-grid race, which shakes up the usual starting order.

  • Three-race weekends

Montreal and Austin have three races instead of two. A new Opening Race starts those weekends.
