The story
Racing on Formula 1 weekends
The FIA Formula 2 Championship has run since 2017. It races on the support bill of Formula 1. In 2026 all 14 rounds share a weekend with a Grand Prix.
Every team uses the same car: a Dallara chassis with a 3.4-litre turbo V6 from Mecachrome and Pirelli tyres. Each weekend has a Sprint race on Saturday and a Feature race on Sunday.

Good to know
- Sprint, then Feature
The Saturday Sprint grid is the top ten from qualifying in reverse. The longer Sunday Feature race has a mandatory pit stop and runs before the Grand Prix.
- Same car until 2026
The current car was built for 2024 to 2026. A car with new wings and an onboard starter follows for 2027 to 2029.
- Baku has two Feature races
The Baku round is a bigger weekend with two qualifying sessions and two Feature races. It runs Thursday to Saturday because Sunday is Remembrance Day in Azerbaijan.
