The story

Premier class since 1949

MotoGP is the top class of the FIM Grand Prix motorcycle world championship. The championship began in 1949 at the Isle of Man TT, where the 500cc Senior TT was the forerunner of today’s MotoGP class.

Every round has a Sprint on Saturday and a Grand Prix on Sunday. Five manufacturers build the bikes in 2026. From 2027 the engines shrink from 1000cc to 850cc, and Pirelli tyres arrive.

Five makers build the bikes: Aprilia, Ducati, Honda, KTM and Yamaha. In 2026 they run 1000cc engines. The class moves to 850cc in 2027.
